In the heart of the city, we find the building that houses the new and renovated offices of Cajamar, in front of the central and bustling Puerta del Sol in Castellón de la Plana. A historic building whose rehabilitation shows the entity’s commitment to the city, recovering and adding value to a historic building.
Historic building
Located in an important historic building in the heart of Castellón, the reform of the territorial management of Cajamar aims to enhance this volume while adapting it to new needs, providing it with spatial flexibility and internal transparency. Pairing the emblematic listed building with the company’s values and turning it into the bank’s flagship in the province requires acting with special sensitivity towards the elements that define the pre-existence.
While the building is honored by respecting its façade and characteristic defining elements, such as its arrangement of openings or its very remarkable central staircase, it is freed from the walls that retained it and remains open to the view of all the users of the building.
In its new condition, almost a sculpture preserved in an urn, it supports the entire building and serves as a light filter between its two wings, which were originally not visually related.
In order to contain several independent uses, such as a conventional bank office and a territorial address, as well as training and conference areas, the opening of a second access with an independent staircase is proposed, which allows isolating the main uses. The roof opens into skylights over this stairway and the original stairway, bathing both with natural exterior light that slides down their steps to bathe the entire building.
